Stock Jeep headlights do the job, i.e. they light up the road but they are far from perfect. Jeep has never produced a leading set of headlights straight from the factory, maybe they’ll stand up and take notice since the aftermarket for Jeep Wrangler LED headlights is thriving.
There’s an entire market built exclusively upon supplying Jeep owners with the latest lighting tech, as you can imagine the Chinese have jumped on the opportunity so one quick search through Amazon or Ebay will find lists of vendors with random names trying to sell you the next best headlights – in their opinion of course!
We wanted to break down the difference between each type of headlight that is trending in the market today and give you some pros and cons so you can make the right decision.
A good set of Jeep Wrangler LED headlights can completely change the look and attitude of your Jeep, it’s an important step in the build of every rig…
1 – Halogen Wrangler Headlights
The Jeep factory headlights use Halogen lighting, the quality is not very good hence the reason for the huge aftermarket of LEDs & projectors, there are ways to improve Halogen lights, however. You will need a new reflector and a much brighter bulb to produce a much higher quality light. If you’re on very tight budget upgrading your stock headlights with a new reflector, a more focused lens + a brighter bulb will do the trick.
2 – Projection Wrangler Headlights
HID lighting is a big upgrade to bog standard factory lights, they provide a very intense amount of light with a very focused pattern which results in amazing lighting, day & night. Over the last few years, the Jeep Wrangler projector headlights have primarily become LED powered which is less maintenance and far more efficient. Projection headlights are without a doubt a big improvement as they provide a much more sharp cut-off when compared to the ball of light produced by the halogen headlights.
3 – Jeep Wrangler LED Headlights
The newest type of lighting and the most popular technology for Jeep owners in 2018, LED lighting has changed the game. The tech is simple, LEDs are clustered together in a pattern to produce the output. The light reflects forward producing a very bright and sharp pattern which helps light up any road or trail. The light produced by LED headlights looks awesome.
There is a need for a harness adapter which can cause some minor flickering but most good quality LED headlights come with anti-flicker harness adapters, it’s just worth being aware of the problem. If you can find the right set of LED headlights they’ll probably deliver the best bang for your buck.
Halogen lights are the cheapest upgrade you can make, you can even purchase them individually unlike LEDs which come as a pair. They’re plug and play which makes it easy to install but the output of light is not great and if you’re trying to add some attitude to your rig don’t bother, they’re not going to cut it.
Projection headlights or LED headlights are going to be your best choice, they both provide the crisp, focused light that most Jeep owners are looking for when they upgrade. Bulb replacements can be expensive and they do require a lot of power but if you find the right deal you’re going to be very happy.
